Take Two: Handing You the Keys to the Playlist

Car salesman handing car keys to man in showroom, close-up

I tried this about a month ago, with limited success.  This time, I’ve changed things up a bit.  No longer will I be asking you to select songs and write about them.  I’ll do the writing, and I’m even selecting the candidates for which songs will be on the playlist.  I sorted through eighty of the most tagged artists in GOBL history (on both the new site and the original), and selected a song from each artist to be put on the list.  I’ve done the work, now all you have to do is vote.  That’s it.  Vote, and your job is done.

Some of you may think I’m doing this out of laziness, or to get artists to share links on social media to drive up web traffic.  And sure, I can’t deny that both are nice benefits of this.  But there’s another, more significant issue here.  Next Monday, I plan to open up voting on the Ghosty awards to the public.  This is the first time I’ve ever had voting on the blog, so I wanted to test things out beforehand.  That way, I can work out any potential glitches prior to the start of voting.

Below you’ll find the ballot.  In each category, five randomly selected songs will be nominated for a particular slot on next week’s playlist.  The song with the most votes in each of the sixteen categories will make it onto next week’s Sunday Spotify Sixteen.  So do your patriotic duty as a citizen, and exercise your right to vote for local music!

  • Monday Mixteen: 11/6/17 I hope everyone has enjoyed this weekend.  It marks one of my favorite weekends of the year.  Why is that?  Simple: one hour of extra sleep.  Yes, The Ghost does love his sleep.  And I recall some British guy once saying something about sleeping perchance to dream, or something to that effect.  So to celebrate [...]
  • Monday Mixteen 10/30/17: Part II The Ghost has always thought it to be rather cliched to do songs about ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and the like for Halloween.  Instead of using the obvious imagery, I like to use a different comparison for this holiday.  Halloween is a time for dressing up as a different creature.  The closest musical kin to dressing [...]
  • Monday Mixteen 10/30/17: Part 1 With the end of October being upon us, this seemed the appropriate time to do a recap of some of the best new music of the month.  I also wanted to do an all covers themed Monday Mixteen playlist.  After much thought, the solution became clear.  One playlist wouldn’t be enough today.  Part 2 of [...]
  • Video Wednesday (VW): 10/25/17 Before I begin today’s Video Wednesday, let me remind my readers that I am very comfortable with the idea of selling out and getting a sponsor.  My deal is still open to allow any Volkswagen dealership the opportunity to sponsor Video Wednesday.  That’s why it’s on a Wednesday: so I can call it VW.  Other [...]
  • Ten for Your Attention This Tuesday: ... No time for idle chit-chat.  Let’s just dive into these ten songs, listed alphabetically by artist, iTunes style. Andrew Holmes demonstrates a very unique vocal style on the track “England”.  It made The Ghost wonder if perhaps England wasn’t just a song title, but a former home.  His Bandcamp page says he’s from Abilene, and [...]
