Take Two: Handing You the Keys to the Playlist

I tried this about a month ago, with limited success.  This time, I’ve changed things up a bit.  No longer will I be asking you to select songs and write about them.  I’ll do the writing, and I’m even selecting the candidates for which songs will be on the playlist.  I sorted through eighty of the most tagged artists in GOBL history (on both the new site and the original), and selected a song from each artist to be put on the list.  I’ve done the work, now all you have to do is vote.  That’s it.  Vote, and your job is done.

Some of you may think I’m doing this out of laziness, or to get artists to share links on social media to drive up web traffic.  And sure, I can’t deny that both are nice benefits of this.  But there’s another, more significant issue here.  Next Monday, I plan to open up voting on the Ghosty awards to the public.  This is the first time I’ve ever had voting on the blog, so I wanted to test things out beforehand.  That way, I can work out any potential glitches prior to the start of voting.

Below you’ll find the ballot.  In each category, five randomly selected songs will be nominated for a particular slot on next week’s playlist.  The song with the most votes in each of the sixteen categories will make it onto next week’s Sunday Spotify Sixteen.  So do your patriotic duty as a citizen, and exercise your right to vote for local music!

  • Threekend: 6/29/18 Hmmm… seems that the calendar could use a little updating.  The Ghost will work on that this weekend.  Really.  Right now, there are more pressing priorities, such as determining what the best shows to see are this weekend.  There are more selections in the calendar (which still needs updating), but these are The Ghost’s three [...]
  • GOBL Radio: June 2018 Highlights You kids today have it so easy. You got your podcasts that you can listen to at whatever moment your heart desires. • Monday Mixteen: 6/25/18 A follower of the blog suggested that I do more theme based playlist. I suspect what that individual had in mind was playlists based on either genre or mood. The problem is that I tend to gravitate towards highly eclectic playlists. From time to time, I will do a playlist with a strong theme. Today [...]
