This is going to be a busy week for me.  Tonight, I’ll be spending time at Liquid Lounge celebrating my dear friend Kim Taylor Owens’ birthday.  I’d encourage you to join me and hear tunes from Justin Pickard, Joe Hardy (Hello Lover, Hawk vs. Dove), Bull by the Horn, Kes O’ Hara, and more.

I’ll also be resuming the Twelve Days of Christmas on the blog, and I’m hoping for more interest in these treats over the next few days.  Not gonna lie, I’m severely disappointed that absolutely NO ONE claimed the Girl in a Coma tickets.  I guess everyone went to see the new Star Wars film Thursday instead.  But really, if I don’t start getting more participation, I may keep all these gifts for me.

The one gift I’ll definitely share on the blog is my 101 Best Local Songs of 2015.  I’ll start the countdown tomorrow, leading up to the big event Tuesday the 29th.  The Ghost will do a very special live Top 40 countdown at Off the Record.  The show will also be broadcast live on Deep Ellum Radio.  This playlist is a sneak preview of sorts that samples some of the artists who charted.  The catch is that the songs on the playlist are not the songs that made the final list.  It does, however, give you idea of what’s to come through this week.  I’m not adding commentary this time around, as I’ll be saving my time for upcoming posts and tonight’s festivities at Liquid Lounge.  Besides, I think the songs speak for themselves without me having to say anything.

Working with Deep Ellum Radio is slowly expanding my musical knowledge of what lies beyond the Texas borders.  One recent discovery that I’ve enjoyed is Timecop1983, whose sounds evoke the best parts of 80’s synth-pop (one of my favorite eras of music).  You can only imagine how excited The Ghost was to learn that Jessie [...]
  • The Threekend: 6/8/18 Welcome to a new feature on the blog, The Threekend.  Goofy title?  Absolutely!  But it’s catchy in that goofy sort of way, so perhaps it’ll stick in your head.  The concept of The Threekend is quite simple: I recommend the three shows over the weekend that are the most significant/interesting/fun/you get the idea.  I write [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 4/9/18 If there is one board game that The Ghost loves, it would be Scrabble.  It’s the perfect merger between my right brain (creativity with words) vs. left brain (mathematical strategies with point values).  I’ve been playing for decades, and even once earned the affectionate nickname “Scrabble playing bastard.”  OK, so perhaps that was not meant [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 4/2/18 So, it’s been awhile since The Ghost has compiled a Monday Mixteen playlist.  Truth is, most of my musical creative energy goes towards my radio show.  If by some miracle you’re not familiar with the show, here’s what you need to know: it airs Wednesday night 7-9 PM CST on Deep Ellum Radio. Still, I [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 2/19/18 I’ve designed this special playlist in honor of President’s Day. It’s an acrostic playlist, and here’s a little refresher from your high school English class: an acrostic poem forms a word with the first letter of each verse in the poem. Except in this case, it’s the song titles that form not a word, but [...]
