cassette (3)

Welcome to 2016’s first new playlist.  Forgive the brevity of this post, but I’m sticking just with songs sans commentary today.  Between real life commitments and posts that I want/need to write, I don’t have the time to wax poetic on each song.

I will tell you that this week’s playlist consists strictly of female solo acts (with a few female fronted bands mixed in).  Also, the first four acts on the list will be performing at Saturday’s Ghost of Blind Lemon Acoustiganza at Opening Bell Coffee.  It’s also worth noting that Alsace Carcione, the fifth act on the playlist, is hosting a special Ladies Night Saturday, January 16th at RBC Speakeasy.

Besides, you know that old saying, ladies first, right?  And this is the year’s first playlist.  I’m just following tradition and all.

  1. Claire Domingue, “Glass”
  2. Rebecca Jozwiak, “Mechanical in Nature”
  3. Emmeline, “Not That Girl”
  4. Gollay, “Semaphores”
  5. Alsace Carcione, “Black America”
  6. Emily Wolfe, “Cigarette Burns”
  7. Sarah Jaffe, “Defense”
  8. Lily Taylor, “Apples and Cinnamon”
  9. Ellen Once Again, “Another Chance to Live”
  10. Sudie, “Van Morrissey”
  11. Jessie Frye, “Big Bad Wolf”
  12. Kalli Therinae, “Bipolarity”
  13. Francine Thirteen, “Lady Mary, The Fire, Pars Una”
  14. Ali Holder, “From My Veins Will Fall”
  15. Sea.shell.ski, “Stupid Butterflies”
  16. Zhora, “Rivers (Blue, the Misfit Remix)”

  • New Music: Jessie Frye, “Faded ... Working with Deep Ellum Radio is slowly expanding my musical knowledge of what lies beyond the Texas borders.  One recent discovery that I’ve enjoyed is Timecop1983, whose sounds evoke the best parts of 80’s synth-pop (one of my favorite eras of music).  You can only imagine how excited The Ghost was to learn that Jessie [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 4/2/18 So, it’s been awhile since The Ghost has compiled a Monday Mixteen playlist.  Truth is, most of my musical creative energy goes towards my radio show.  If by some miracle you’re not familiar with the show, here’s what you need to know: it airs Wednesday night 7-9 PM CST on Deep Ellum Radio. Still, I [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 2/19/18 I’ve designed this special playlist in honor of President’s Day. It’s an acrostic playlist, and here’s a little refresher from your high school English class: an acrostic poem forms a word with the first letter of each verse in the poem. Except in this case, it’s the song titles that form not a word, but [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 2/12/18 The Ghost has been rather busy with Directing the Programming at Deep Ellum Radio.  As a result, the blog has been a bit neglected.  So today, to “celebrate” Valentine’s Day, I am bringing back the Monday Mixteen.  I put the word celebrate in quotes because anyone who knows me realizes that I don’t celebrate that [...]
