Generally speaking, there’s not much going on in terms of shows right after New Year’s. It’s usually a time where, to be honest, clubs do not put on A grade shows.
Someone forgot to tell King Camel Productions about that unspoken rule. The talent buyer’s first show of the year, declaring it the “Year of the Camel”, features three first rate acts on a bill together. This is the kind of bill where you could arrange the performers in any order and it would make sense. All three performers are that comparable in quality.
The night kicks off with Denton native Daniel Markham, a man who has the intellect of a singer-songwriter, but the sonic desire to be a rock star. He manages to combine rock and well written songs into a great package. Next up is Moon Waves, a young band so skilled in their genre of psych rock that you forget that they’re young. In fact, labeling them as a “young band” does them a disservice, as they can hang with the more seasoned bands around town, often even outdoing them. Finally, Party Static rounds out the night. If by some freak chance you haven’t seen them yet, you’re missing out on one of Dallas’ most fun acts. Mix part B-52’s, part post-punk, and lots of energy and attitude, and you’ve got a good idea of what Party Static is about.
I think anyone looking for a fun way to kick off 2016 will do well in joining me at Three Links tonight for this killer lineup.
