A DEAF Playlist

deaf poster

This isn’t a deaf playlist as in a playlist for those who can’t hear.  After all, that’d be kind of pointless.  It’s also not deaf in the 80’s hip-hop sense of the word, although I do think this playlist is pretty def.  Word to your mother.

No, I mean DEAF as in Deep Ellum Arts Festival, which starts today at 11:00 am.  You know, in case you don’t have to work and stuff.  There’s going to be plenty of great art.  And music.  Lots of great music too.  This playlist isn’t a list of everyone playing, but rather a sampling of thirty of the strongest musical highlights of the weekend.  Forgive me for not taking the time to say something deep and insightful about each act.  I’m even being so lazy as to not list the set times.  After all, you can go to the Deep Ellum Arts Festival website for all that info.

I will remind you, however, to visit the Sons of Hermann Hall stages Saturday from noon until 3:45, as I’ll be emceeing both the Ballroom as well as the Bowling Alley.  I even featured Luna Royale and Sarah Michelle Gutierrez in the playlist, both of which are cool artists that I’ll be getting to introduce.

But enough of that.  Let’s listen to some music.

  • Monday Mixteen: 2/19/18 I’ve designed this special playlist in honor of President’s Day. It’s an acrostic playlist, and here’s a little refresher from your high school English class: an acrostic poem forms a word with the first letter of each verse in the poem. Except in this case, it’s the song titles that form not a word, but [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 2/12/18 The Ghost has been rather busy with Directing the Programming at Deep Ellum Radio.  As a result, the blog has been a bit neglected.  So today, to “celebrate” Valentine’s Day, I am bringing back the Monday Mixteen.  I put the word celebrate in quotes because anyone who knows me realizes that I don’t celebrate that [...]
  • Spreading the Love: Emmeline & M... The Ghost is bringing back a feature called Spreading the Love, but this time there’s a twist.  Instead of myself writing about an artist I feel is worthy of attention, a local musician will be writing about one of his/her local favorite artists.  It’s only appropriate that the first guest columnist is Ellen Hinton (aka [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: New Year’s Day,... 2017 was a crazy roller coaster ride of a year for The Ghost.  I went the first two and a half months of the year without a peep of the blog due to life stresses.  After that, posts were sporadic as best.  In fact, The Ghost came close to taking an “indefinite hiatus” from the [...]
  • The 7 Best Performances of 2017 Let me just stipulate this fact: I have been to fewer local shows in 2017 than any year since probably 1999.  This started out as a rough year for The Ghost, and as a result, there are many excellent shows that I’ve missed out on.  I cannot claim that this a thorough and comprehensive look [...]
