Sunday Spotify 16: 8/28/16

cassette (10)

First off, thanks to all who attended last night’s birthday debauchery at Double-Wide.  I thank Veronica Young for being a trooper and hosting the event, even though hours before she had a molar extracted; that’s dedication.  Thanks to Double-Wide, who were one of the most enjoyable staffs I’ve had the pleasure of working with.  And of course, I thank The Birds of Night, The Cover Letter, and The Heavy Hands for playing.  I’ll even thank Cut Throat Finches, even though they slandered The Ghost’s reputation by suggesting that “Careless Whisper” is my favorite song.  Let me go on record as stating that is totally false, and that no song can top “Total Eclipse of the Heart”.

I got many people thanking me for these Sunday Spotify 16 playlists, and it means a lot to know that y’all are listening and paying attention.  I hope you’ll forgive me today though.  I’m needing a day to recover from last night, so I’ve chosen a rather lazy method of compiling this playlist.  I put my iTunes on shuffle, and selected the first 16 local and/or Texas songs that came up on the list.  I still think it’s a good list of songs (obviously, as they’re in my iTunes account), but it lacks any specific cohesiveness or witty comments.  Not to fear, The Ghost will be in usual form next Sunday.  For now though, enjoy this highly random playlist of great tunes!

  1. Reverend Horton Heat, “Rock the Joint”
  2. Spoon, “I Turn My Camera On”
  3. Clifffs, “And I Make Off Like a Thief”
  4. Eisley, “Telescope Eyes”
  5. Madison King, “Lessons Learned in Love”
  6. The Virgin Wolves, “Virtue and Vice”
  7. Dove Hunter, “What Turns Inside”
  8. The Birds of Night, “Stranger”
  9. Jibe, “Born on Bread”
  10. St. Vincent, “Now. Now.”
  11. Mobley, “Solo”
  12. These Machines Are Winning, “You Have Been Talking to a Ghost”
  13. True Widow, “HW:R”
  14. Dead Love Club, “Looking for Some Action”
  15. The Rocketboys, “Bloodless”
  16. MC 900 Ft. Jesus, “Falling Elevators”

  • Monday Mixteen: 7/29/19 This Thursday will mark the twelve year anniversary of the blog, and with that anniversary comes twelve years of the second identity I took on: The Ghost. I certainly chose the name Ghost of Blind Lemon in part as a tribute to Dallas’ first major blues musician to take residence here, Blind Lemon Jefferson. But [...]
  • The Ghostified Gathering For a week or so, Festify was all the rage on social media. It was an app that created fictitious festival lineups based on one’s Spotify listening habits. One could create a lineup based on the most listened to artists over the course of a month, six months, or one’s entire time on Spotify. The [...]
  • Jayson Wortham One of the bands that made an intense impact on The Ghost during the early days of blogging was Dove Hunter. There was an intensity and drama to their set that made them stand out as one of the best local bands of the time period. One track of theirs that especially hit me hard [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 3/11/19 A funny thing happened on the way to making last week’s Monday Mixteen. WordPress would not allow me to log in to update. Even once that issue was resolved, several previously published articles disappeared. Bah humbug. The plan was to make last week’s Monday Mixteen a tribute to Three Links’ anniversary weekend, and to promote [...]
