Monday Mixteen: 11/20/17

inxs kick cassette

The Ghost almost never discusses music outside of the state of Texas.  Today, however, I will discuss a band that was a huge favorite of my teenage years, and still one of my all time favorite bands.  INXS were superstars of the 1980’s alternative rock movement, thanks to killer tracks like “The One Thing”, “What You Need”, “Need You Tonight”, and.. well, the list goes on and on.  Much of the band’s success could be attributed to their charismatic lead singer, Michael Hutchence.  This Wednesday marks the twenty year anniversary of his passing.  In honor of this sad anniversary, I’ve created an acrostic playlist.  For those who are not familiar with poetic terminology, an acrostic is a poem where the first letter of each line spells a word.  In this case, the first letter of each song title spells out the name of a major INXS hit, one that feels appropriate on such an anniversary.

  1. “Newport Drive”, Gaston Light
  2. “Everytime I’m With You”, Medicine Man Revival
  3. “Valium”, The Orange
  4. “England”, Andrew Holmes
  5. “Rolling Out”, Vandoliers
  6. “Ties”, Tomkat
  7. “Earful”, Oil Boom
  8. “Abandoned”, By Default By Design
  9. “Recover”, Motorcade
  10. “Up the Stats”, Devy Stonez
  11. “Safe Passage”, Falgoo
  12. “Amelia Earhart”, Andrew Delaney
  13. “Parasite”, Panic Volcanic
  14. “After Tonight”, The Speedlights
  15. “Raining in Amarillo”, Crystal Yates
  16. “Transcends”, Jackie Venson

Just in case you need it spelled out more clearly, here’s St. Vincent with Beck’s Record Club performing said hit.

  • Monday Mixteen: 1/22/18 South by Southwest may be over a month away, but it seems as if there’s already plenty of talk regarding the acts that made the cut.  Today’s Monday Mixteen gives you an opportunity to sample some of the Texas acts that will be performing.  In addition to some very familiar names, there are a few [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: New Year’s Day,... 2017 was a crazy roller coaster ride of a year for The Ghost.  I went the first two and a half months of the year without a peep of the blog due to life stresses.  After that, posts were sporadic as best.  In fact, The Ghost came close to taking an “indefinite hiatus” from the [...]
  • The 17 Best Releases of 2017 The Ghost has always avoided doing Best Albums of the Year lists.  There is something intimidating about making such lists and making certain that your words are appropriately eloquent for each of the releases.  But for the first time, The Ghost is taking on the task… sort of.  What follows is an unranked listing of [...]
