Monday Mixteen: 11/20/17

inxs kick cassette

The Ghost almost never discusses music outside of the state of Texas.  Today, however, I will discuss a band that was a huge favorite of my teenage years, and still one of my all time favorite bands.  INXS were superstars of the 1980’s alternative rock movement, thanks to killer tracks like “The One Thing”, “What You Need”, “Need You Tonight”, and.. well, the list goes on and on.  Much of the band’s success could be attributed to their charismatic lead singer, Michael Hutchence.  This Wednesday marks the twenty year anniversary of his passing.  In honor of this sad anniversary, I’ve created an acrostic playlist.  For those who are not familiar with poetic terminology, an acrostic is a poem where the first letter of each line spells a word.  In this case, the first letter of each song title spells out the name of a major INXS hit, one that feels appropriate on such an anniversary.

  1. “Newport Drive”, Gaston Light
  2. “Everytime I’m With You”, Medicine Man Revival
  3. “Valium”, The Orange
  4. “England”, Andrew Holmes
  5. “Rolling Out”, Vandoliers
  6. “Ties”, Tomkat
  7. “Earful”, Oil Boom
  8. “Abandoned”, By Default By Design
  9. “Recover”, Motorcade
  10. “Up the Stats”, Devy Stonez
  11. “Safe Passage”, Falgoo
  12. “Amelia Earhart”, Andrew Delaney
  13. “Parasite”, Panic Volcanic
  14. “After Tonight”, The Speedlights
  15. “Raining in Amarillo”, Crystal Yates
  16. “Transcends”, Jackie Venson

Just in case you need it spelled out more clearly, here’s St. Vincent with Beck’s Record Club performing said hit.

  • Monday Mixteen: 8/13/18 The Ghost debated on several different playlist themes for the week, but never had the time to fully develop one of those themes into a sixteen song playlist. Between my eleven year anniversary celebrations and my return to my day job in education, it’s been a busy time. Still, I don’t want the Monday Mixteen [...]
  • Sunday Spotify 16: 7/29/18 Wednesday of this week will mark the eleven year anniversary of the blog. Instead of doing the Monday Mixteen, I opted for going older school with a Sunday Spotify 16. Tomorrow, I’ll be highlighting another playlist… you’ll see what I’m talking about then. For today, I’m looking back on some acts that are no more: [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 7/16/18 There’s a lot that The Ghost doesn’t like about the summer: the heat, the wasps, the heat… did I mention I don’t like the heat?  One part of summer that The Ghost does like, however, is Free Week at Granada Theater.  For the course of about four days, the venue will host great local and [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 7/2/18 You know, it’s been awhile since The Ghost put on a show.  The 11 year anniversary of the blog is coming soon, and The Ghost “might” make a concert announcement tomorrow.  To get you hyped for the announcement, I have curated a playlist featuring sixteen acts that have previously performed as part of Ghost of [...]
