Monday Mixteen: 12/11/17

Monday Mixteen 20171211

Lately, it seems The Ghost has been short on words.  That tradition is breaking today… sort of.  I still have no commentaries for these sixteen tracks, but I did spend more time than usual typing the titles.  You see, today’s theme is long song titles.  More to the point, the songs have to be over five words in length.  I figure if you need your second hand to count the number of words, it’s a long title.

I also chose this theme since there are a number of lengthy Christmas songs that fit that criteria.  I mean, I suppose I should be helping y’all get into the holiday spirit and stuff.  Not that all quite fit that spirit (particularly the American Werewolf Academy song), but it’s a start.

  1. Reverend Horton Heat, “Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy”
  2. Francine Thirteen, “Lust Heals, Give Me My Sin”
  3. Pretty Mary K, “If They Call Me a Country Boy”
  4. Matthew and the Arrogant Seam “The Distance Between You and Your Rattlesnake”
  5. Quiet Company, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”
  6. The Prof.Fuzz 63. “Three-Way Tie for Dog of the Year”
  7. LeRoyce (feat. Devy Stonez), “No Need to Think About It”
  8. Chris J Norwood, “There’s Always Someplace You’ve Never Been”
  9. Becky Middleton, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”
  10. The Unlikely Candidates, “Best Things in Life Aren’t Free”
  11. The Deathray Davies, “I Regret the Day I Tried to Steal Daniel’s Ego”
  12. The War Bonnets, “We Are All That Is Left”
  13. American Werewolf Academy, “Beauty & Youth Are Wasted on the Dead”
  14. David Ramirez, “People Call Who They Want To”
  15. Viva Maxitone, “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”
  16. Ronnie Fauss, “I Think We’re Going to Be Okay”

  • The Ghostified Gathering For a week or so, Festify was all the rage on social media. It was an app that created fictitious festival lineups based on one’s Spotify listening habits. One could create a lineup based on the most listened to artists over the course of a month, six months, or one’s entire time on Spotify. The [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 4/29/19 I had some ideas of what to cook up for today’s Monday Mixteen, but I just couldn’t figure out the right musical ingredients for the playlist.  On top of that, The Ghost just didn’t feel like serving up the dish of a carefully curated themed playlist.  So I did what people do when they’re lazy [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 4/1/19 You may be aware that this weekend is the Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and that Deep Ellum Radio has its own Artist’s Court Stage this year. You might have even heard that The Ghost is curating his own day’s worth of music on said stage. So yes, this is gonna be a good year for [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 1/7/2019 Happy new year to all my GOBL readers.  It’s time for the first Monday Mixteen of 2019.  It feels like it should be an opportunity to explore the future of new music.  I learned, however, that January 7th is Old Rock Day.  It only seems appropriate that we examine some old rock.  The term old [...]
