Monday Mixteen: 4/2/18

Monday Mixteen Template 20180402

So, it’s been awhile since The Ghost has compiled a Monday Mixteen playlist.  Truth is, most of my musical creative energy goes towards my radio show.  If by some miracle you’re not familiar with the show, here’s what you need to know: it airs Wednesday night 7-9 PM CST on Deep Ellum Radio.

Still, I felt this would be a good time to do a Monday Mixteen.  For one thing, now that March is past, that means that the first quarter of the year is complete.  It seemed a good time to review the music released during that period.  Instead of simply highlighting the songs I’ve played the most on the radio show, The Ghost decided to shine a light on some tracks that haven’t gotten played on my show as of yet.

Why have these tracks not been played?  There are a multitude of possible reasons.  In some cases, I’ve been featuring other tracks by these artists on my show.  Also, since the show leans heavier on local tracks as opposed to Texas tracks outside the metroplex, there are fewer opportunities to spotlight such acts.  Finally, in some cases, the only reason I’m not playing these songs is that I don’t have the mp3’s to play on Ghost of Blind Lemon Radio.  If that’s the case, the remedy is as simple as sending an email to ghostofblindlemon@gmail.com to submit your music.  Whatever the reason these songs have not made it to the airwaves, I hope you find these tracks pleasing to your ears.

  1. Leon Bridges, “Bad Bad News”
  2. Sleepy Zuhoski, “Daydream”
  3. Remy Reilly, “Virus”

  • Monday Mixteen: 2/18/19 A funny thing happened this week. I’m not referring to the fact that I posted two articles this week, though that has been quite atypical of my output as of late. It’s more what I rediscovered in the process of completing those posts. The truth is, I really love writing about artists. I’m not just [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 1/21/19 To celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday today, I felt it should be something that was incorporated in today’s Monday Mixteen.  The Ghost’s first instinct was to do another acrostic playlist, with the song titles spelling out his name (minus the Jr. part).  While I kept with that theme, I felt it was not [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 1/14/19 You may notice that the songs in the below playlist are in the alternating order of the letters S & M. Yes, The Ghost realizes that this theme may be rather controversial. I could have easily shied away from it, but it seems pointless to try to hide one’s deepest desires. Several readers will find [...]
  • The Ghost’s Top 101 of 2018: #5... Now that we’ve made it into the Top 50, I suppose The Ghost should add a little commentary for each track.  Fine, I can do that, especially since I only have to do that for ten songs.  Yes, it’s an unusually short playlist today.  That’s because I’ve saved the remaining Top 40 for Sunday afternoon.  [...]
  • The Ghost’s Top 101 of 2018: #7... Another day, another reveal of countdown songs.  Yesterday, you saw #101-71.  #70 is something of a rebel.  It’s one of one two songs in the countdown that is currently unavailable on Spotify.  You can take that up with Starside R&D on January 5, when they perform at Double-Wide along with Kid Fight and Sandovall.  So [...]
