Monday Mixteen: 6/25/18

A follower of the blog suggested that I do more theme based playlist. I suspect what that individual had in mind was playlists based on either genre or mood. The problem is that I tend to gravitate towards highly eclectic playlists. From time to time, I will do a playlist with a strong theme. Today will not be one of those days.

Actually, I take that back. There is a theme to today’s playlist… sort of. I’ve come to enjoy doing what I call “acrostic playlists”. For those who don’t recall acrostic poems from high school, it’s a poem where the first letter of each line spells out a word. Today’s acrostic playlist commemorates a famous battle in United States History that happened on this day in 1876. It’s the Battle of Little Big Horn, a decisive victory in a battle over land between the U.S. and Native American tribes. Indian chiefs such as Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse had military victories so strong that the battle earned a nickname named after the defeated general. The unofficial name for the battle can be found in the acrostic playlist.

  1. “Circuit Tree”, Electrik Ants
  2. “Unstoppable”, Salim Nourallah
  3. “Scars”, Tilly and the Flowers
  4. “Take Me As I Am”, Jane Ellen Bryant
  5. “Escape Velocity”, The Holophonics
  6. “Red Rover”, Loafers
  7. “Stories by the Campfire”, Brave Little Howl
  8. “Like Me”, Bobby Sessions
  9. “All Tribal Dignitaries”, Halls of the Machine
  10. “Swlabr”, Big Red Ants
  11. “Teardrops”, TOMKAT
  12. “Somethin’ Kinda Beautiful”, Ducado Vega & Zenya Vi
  13. “T.G.F.Y.”, Alex
  14. “Arkansas”, Manana Cowboy
  15. “No Telling”, Claire Morales
  16. “Darkstar”, Bloody Knives

Even once that issue was resolved, several previously published articles disappeared. Bah humbug. The plan was to make last week’s Monday Mixteen a tribute to Three Links’ anniversary weekend, and to promote [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 1/21/19 To celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday today, I felt it should be something that was incorporated in today’s Monday Mixteen.  The Ghost’s first instinct was to do another acrostic playlist, with the song titles spelling out his name (minus the Jr. part).  While I kept with that theme, I felt it was not [...]
  • The Ghost’s Top 101 of 2018: #5... Now that we’ve made it into the Top 50, I suppose The Ghost should add a little commentary for each track.  Fine, I can do that, especially since I only have to do that for ten songs.  Yes, it’s an unusually short playlist today.  That’s because I’ve saved the remaining Top 40 for Sunday afternoon.  [...]
  • The Ghost’s Top 101 of 2018: #7... Another day, another reveal of countdown songs.  Yesterday, you saw #101-71.  #70 is something of a rebel.  It’s one of one two songs in the countdown that is currently unavailable on Spotify.  You can take that up with Starside R&D on January 5, when they perform at Double-Wide along with Kid Fight and Sandovall.  So [...]
  • The Ghost’s Top 101 of 2018: #1... Now that Christmas is over, and you have time to kill until New Year’s Eve, this seems the perfect time to begin The Ghost’s Year End Countdown. For the next three days, I will be highlighting songs that were among the best and most defining tracks for me in 2018. Today, we start at #101, [...]
