Monday Mixteen 20181001

September has been a crazy month for me.  For the majority of the month, The Ghost did not record any radio shows.  Blogging has largely been limited to the usual Monday Mixteen posts.  Still, there were some notable events this month.  I did get to premier a new Salim Nourallah track.  I shared some cool videos by Cody Lynn Boyd, Jackie Venson, and Tippy Balady.  And then of course there’s the whole Ghosty nominations thing (don’t forget, you can vote once per day).

Even with all that, however, there hasn’t been as much focus on new music as The Ghost would like.  So on today’s Monday Mixteen, I look back on several of the best tracks released over the past month.  And yes, there will be a new episode of Ghost of Blind Lemon Radio airing this Wednesday at 7 PM CST.  I may play a few of these artists Wednesday night, but there’s not as much overlap between this Monday Mixteen and Wednesday’s show as you’d expect.  So enjoy today’s Monday Mixteen, and take time out Wednesday night to hear The Ghost’s return to radio.  Do it, for the sake of local music.

I certainly chose the name Ghost of Blind Lemon in part as a tribute to Dallas’ first major blues musician to take residence here, Blind Lemon Jefferson. But [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 7/22/19 Politics are an area that I’ve always been reluctant to discuss on the blog.  After all, this is a music blog, not a political one.  With the level of vitriol being spread in our country right now, however, I feel that I cannot continue to stay silent.  The level of racism and hate being spouted [...]
  • VW (Video Wednesday) – 7/10/19 You knew the second you saw that Beetle that it was time for another installment of Video Wednesday.  Actually, maybe you’re new to the blog, and have no idea what the heck The Ghost is talking about.  So here’s the deal: sometimes on a Wednesday, I’ll share a bunch of videos on the blog and [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 7/1/19 So you all know that July 4th is Independence Day, which marks the anniversary of the U.S. declaring itself its own country.  I bet you didn’t know, however, that July 4th is National Country Music Day.  It seems appropriate, as I’m not sure there’s a musical style that’s as distinctively American is Country.  In honor [...]
  • Monday Mixteen: 6/24/19 What a weekend this has been for The Ghost.  I want to give a huge thank you to Opening Bell Coffee for letting me host my Acoustiganza there, to all the talented musicians who played, and for everyone who came and supported the local musicians. This weekend promises to be a big one for shows [...]
