Throwback Thursday Goes Back to 1978

salim 1978

Twitter may be overrated in The Ghost’s book, but its users have come up with their share of clever hashtags: #ff, #musicmonday, and of course, #tbt.  The first two seem to have somewhat run their course, but Throwback Thursday, aka #tbt, is still going strong.  So why shouldn’t GOBL get a little piece of the social media action?

I was trying to decide what would be the perfect song for the site’s first Throwback Thursday, and I have it.  This song is a throwback within a throwback.  Released in 2004, Salim Nourallah’s “1978” takes listeners back to the decade of disco through the eyes of an 11 year old Salim.  Part sentimental, part funny, and all the lyrical wit one would expect from Mr. Nourallah, “1978” is the perfect song for your Throwback Thursday.

So, continuing in that unorthodox vain, why not do a [...]

  • Monday Mixteen: 3/23/2020 What kind of playlist do we need at a time like this?  Should The Ghost rely on tried and true favorites, or venture into the territory of new releases and undiscovered artists?  Should the message in these songs be one of hope that we need, or the despair so many of us feel?  There is [...]
  • The Ghostified Gathering For a week or so, Festify was all the rage on social media. It was an app that created fictitious festival lineups based on one’s Spotify listening habits. One could create a lineup based on the most listened to artists over the course of a month, six months, or one’s entire time on Spotify. The [...]
